I am personally a huge fan of Rebecca's art.
Contemporary artist Rebecca Mason works with neon light to create truly unique, striking and interesting pieces.
Her work explores the darker side of human nature through the medium of light, for a conceptually powerful juxtaposition. In using neon, Mason allows the seediness of the city to seep into the delicacy of her work, which is always centred around typography, offering a slight but profound comment on human existence and emotion.
‘In Excess’ depicts the single word ‘obsession’, each letter bent from bright white strips of neon light. The eye-catching word is set against a black background, onto which Mason has printed a poetic paragraph that reminds its viewer of life’s little excesses, and the importance of ‘getting as much as possible out of every moment’. The interplay of light and dark is mesmerising and profoundly beautiful and Mason’s message is life-affirming: a brilliant moment of illumination in an all-too often dark world.
